Women Using Violence in Intimate Relationships (Revised)

 

This is an exciting opportunity to take part in the development of Respect’s course on Women Using Violence in Intimate Relationships.  This one-day course recently revised and developed and delivered by RESPECT.   This course is being offered free to delegates as a pilot training and delegates will be asked to make suggestions and comment to assist with any future development of the course.

The course will enable delegates to identify and assess how women’s use of violence fits into domestic violence definitions, exploring context, meaning and impact

Delegates will work with case studies to develop understanding of why and how women use violence in intimate relationships and explore how to respond more effectively.

Seminar: Developing good practice for supporting survivors of domestic violence and abuse: research and recommendations

Date:  Thursday 19 February 2015, 1.30pm – 4.30pm

Venue: Royal Albert Hall, Nottingham

Free for workers in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire

This seminar will explore recent research and related recommendations for practice when supporting survivors/ victims of domestic violence and abuse.  Speakers will include:  Nicola Sharp who will present on: Finding the Costs of Freedom: How women and children rebuild their lives after domestic violence. This will include: What factors support long term settlement, how do they interrelate and at what points in the process are they particularly important? When do obstacles to resettlement occur and how can they be overcome? How can community resources best be developed and integrated for long term support of survivor resettlement and independence?

Introduction to the Impact of Rape and Sexual Violence

This course has been developed for professionals working in the sector and will be delivered by Rape Crisis Nottingham.  The course explores attitudes, beliefs and stereotypes associated with rape and sexual violence.  Delegates will increase understanding of the impact of rape and sexual violence. The course will also look at the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and enable delegates to develop a greater understanding of the implications surrounding reporting.

How Technology is Used to Abuse and Protect Young People

Developed and delivered by AVA (Against Violence and Abuse), this course will provide an overview of the different ways technology is used to abuse young people. For anyone working with young people, who wants to learn more about technology & its impact on young people, including Youth Workers, Social Workers, YOT, FIP, School Nurses and Teachers.

Delegates will learn how technology can impact on young people’s emotional and physical wellbeing; including online grooming, sexting and internet safety. Practitioners will also gain knowledge about how technology can protect young people by increasing their knowledge about abuse and support services.

Learning Objectives

  • To increase delegates’ knowledge on the different ways technology is used to abuse young people
  • To understand the impact technology has on VAWG including domestic violence
  • To expand delegates knowledge about the impact of online pornography on young peoples’ relationships
  • To gain an understanding about sexting and its impact on young people
  • To learn about online resources that can inform your practise with young people
  • To increase knowledge on how online space can be used to reach and engage vulnerable young people
