Young women aged 16-24 are at the highest reported risk of experiencing domestic abuse and 1 in 4 teen girls have suffered this within their own relationship. From lads’ mags and music videos to online pornography, young people are bombarded with damaging messages about sex, relationships and gender. There is a pressing need for children and young people to be taught from the earliest ages about healthy relationships, respect for women, and consent.

Yet these topics are sadly still not part of the national curriculum, and schools therefore have no obligation to teach them to pupils.

Everyday Sexism and End Violence Against Women Coalition have launched a petition asking leading politicians to commit to making sex and relationships education compulsory in all schools. Add your voice by signing the petition here.
