You’re not alone, and help is available
If a partner, ex-partner or family member makes you feel scared, controlled or unable to make your own decisions, that could be abuse — it doesn’t have to be physical. Healthy relationships aren’t like this. Support is here, whatever your background or relationship.
Support for men across
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire
Talking about abuse can be hard. It can affect your whole life — your children, family, friendships, mental health, finances and work. It’s normal to feel anxious about reaching out, but we’re here to listen.
We support men aged 16 and over living in Nottingham city, and 18 and over living in Nottinghamshire county. We work with all sexualities, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.
Our support is provided by a dedicated team of qualified Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs), who understand controlling behaviour, physical abuse, stalking, honour-based abuse, forced marriage and other forms of domestic abuse.
Talk to someone, in your own time
Our helpline is here for men, or those identifying as men, experiencing domestic abuse. Our team are fully trained, compassionate and ready to listen whenever you’re ready — you can share as much or as little as you like.
Helpline support is led by you, because you’re the best person to make decisions about your life. You can also call if you’re worried about someone else.
We support men aged 16+ living in Nottingham city and 18+ elsewhere in Nottinghamshire.
Help that’s built around you
Our Independent Domestic Abuse Advocates work with you to set your own goals and build a safety plan to reduce risk and harm. We can support you with housing, navigating the justice system, your children’s wellbeing, and accessing mental health or substance misuse services.
We won’t pressure you or tell you what to do. We’ll listen and help you work out your next steps.
Frequently asked questions
We know reaching out can feel like a big step. Here are answers to some questions you might have.
Do I have to give my real name?
No. You can speak to us or fill in our referral form without using your real name. You’re in control of how much information you share with us. If you decide to progress with your case, we may need your real name later so we can provide you with the right support.
Is the helpline available outside office hours?
Our helpline is open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm (until 7.30pm on Wednesdays). Outside these times, there’s a 24/7 confidential answerphone service.
What happens after I make a referral?
A member of our Helpline Team will get in touch within 48 hours, excluding weekends. They’ll offer initial advice — it’s up to you how much you share and whether you want ongoing support afterwards.
Can I contact Equation if I’m worried about someone else?
Yes. You can call us if you’re worried about a friend, family member or colleague, even if you’re not sure what to do.
